The Pearl is written by John Steinbeck in 1947. He was born in 1902 and lived near the Pacific Coast. He went to Stanford University for publications and writing courses but later dropped out in 1925. He then got married and began to write many novels. In the story Kinos son Coyotito, describes stung by a scorpion.
