In many peoples eyes, the Puritans belief systems and practices were a little over the top and extreme at times. Rowlandson continues to explain Gods Sovereignty and unequivocal power as she states, And I cannot but admire at the wonderful power and goodness of God to me, in that, though I was gone from home, and met with all sorts of Indians, and those I had no familiarity of, and there being no Christian soul costly me; yet not one of them offered the least imaginable abortion to me. (Rowlandson, p.247) Rowlandson believes she was protected by God in the way that she was not harmed by the Indians. Edwards explains how he struggles with Gods Sovereignty in the section of his narrative as he states, my mind had been usage to be full of objections against the doctrine of Gods Sovereignty, in choosing whom He would to eternal life and rejecting whom he pleased; exit them eternally to perish, and be everlastingly tormented in hell.
